Hi, I have my cockatiel Nicky since 21 august 2001. I had read several books on cockatiels beforehand and thought I knew enough about them (but turned out not to). The first few days Nicky was very quiet and hardly moved from his place. It seemed strange to me, but apparently he didn't feel comfortable yet, still had to get used to his new home. Nicky was about 2 months old when I bought him; he had his wings clipped because he was rather wild in the beginning. |

Later on I regretted this a lot, as he did try to fly but always fell to the ground. Fortunately, he can now fly again.
When I let Nicky out of his cage he flies a few rounds through the room and lands on my shoulder. After some cuddling he then goes back to sit on top of his cage. He is very fond of millet but likes potatoe chips too. He is a master in begging. |

When he hears something rustling he comes flying to the spot and if by any means possible, eats the chips from my mouth. Nicky hates water with vitamine drops, the yellow color is not all to his liking. He has one real favourite place to sit, on his fluffy toy sheep.
Climbing a CD rack is one of his hobbys. |

He also likes strolling over the keyboard and has real big fun in pulling my earrings. Nicky has the habit of screaming real loud when he wants to get out of his cage. If I don't let him out, he turns up the volume, unbelievable. He doesn't talk yet, but is copying more and more tones in his whistles. Nicky is a real man, as he shows in his behaviour. Nicky is a very sweet, lovely, cute and sometimes rebellious little bird and I hope he will grow very old. Regards from Maaike and a beak from sir himself. |
